Children's Lit Book Preview
Because I despise gatekeepers, I decided to publish my children’s book as a serial blog
The book has been finished for a while, the illustrations are pretty much there, and I’m tired of not being able to decide if I should shop around the manuscript or self-publish. There are many reasons to do one or the other, and just as many not to.
Instead, I shall do neither.
Here are the first three chapters of Pepper, Forever. https://pepperforever.pika.page/
You can sign up there to get notified when the next chapter drops, and you can leave comments and even draw pictures in the guestbook!1
I would LOVE it if you let me know what you think. Enjoy reading Pepper’s story!
Once I made this decision, it took me ages to find the right platform (sorry, Substack, but this didn’t feel like the place for it). Pika is a great blogging platform run by a very small team that’s simple to use and easily customizable. The founder even wrote me a personal reply after I responded to his first post check-in email (a nice touch!). I HIGHLY recommend it!

Laura, this is simply brilliant! I was completely engaged and charmed by the first three chapters. Pepper!!!!! I LOVE her and her origin story so much so far. This is going to be a GREAT read-aloud story for young children. Truly, you've got the beginnings of a classic here. I'm so looking forward to reading the rest, especially when you and Pepper become partners. ❤️🐾 I'll spread it far and wide and order a dozen copies for my little free library and pass it on to my local library and elementary school. It's so so so good!
